The Windows is a series of photographs exploring the connection between man-made structures and nature.
In August 2017 and August 2019 I visited the Karelian isthmus, an area situated between the Gulf of Finland and Lake Ladoga in north western Russia. Here I discovered a formerly working barn, a building steadily crumbling away, which had been left untouched since Soviet Union state farming ceased in the 1990’s.
I saw the barn’s windows as ‘survivors’, gradually engaged in a process of merging with nature, with wild plants, trash and sunlight all combining to create their own individuality.
